NONTONNEWS.COM - PSSI secara resmi mengumumkan pemecatan Shin Tae-yong dari jabatan pelatih Timnas Indonesia setelah hasil mengecewakan yang diraih skuad Garuda di Piala AFF 2024. Keputusan ini diumumkan langsung oleh Ketua Umum PSSI, Erick Thohir, dalam konferensi pers di Menara Danareksa, Jakarta Pusat, pada Senin (6/1/2025) pagi WIB.
Shin Tae-yong dipecat setelah membawa Timnas Indonesia, yang mayoritas diperkuat oleh pemain U-22, gagal melaju lebih jauh di Piala AFF 2024 dan hanya terhenti di fase grup. Erick Thohir menekankan bahwa keputusan tersebut diambil demi kemajuan tim nasional Indonesia. "Kami mengucapkan terima kasih atas kerja keras Shin Tae-yong selama ini, hubungan kami sangat baik. Namun, dinamika tim nasional perlu mendapat perhatian lebih dalam evaluasi ini," ujar Thohir.
Dalam kesempatan yang sama, Thohir juga menyebut bahwa pihaknya telah memiliki calon pengganti Shin Tae-yong, yang akan diperkenalkan secara resmi pada 12 Januari 2025. "Kami sudah mendapatkan calonnya, nanti kita akan adakan konferensi pers pada tanggal 12 Januari, sekitar jam 4 sore. Media akan diberi kesempatan untuk bertanya langsung kepada pelatih yang baru," tambahnya.
Shin Tae-yong pertama kali diangkat sebagai pelatih Timnas Indonesia pada 28 Desember 2019, menggantikan Simon McMenemy. Meskipun selama masa kepelatihannya, Shin Tae-yong belum berhasil mempersembahkan trofi juara, ia mencatatkan sejumlah prestasi penting yang layak dihargai. Di antaranya, mencapai babak 16 besar Piala Asia 2023 dan hampir membawa Indonesia lolos ke Olimpiade melalui semifinal Piala Asia U-23 2024.
Selain itu, Shin Tae-yong juga sukses membawa Timnas Indonesia mencapai putaran ketiga Kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2026 zona Asia, serta memastikan tiket ke putaran final Piala Asia 2027. Berikut adalah daftar prestasi Shin Tae-yong selama menukangi Timnas Indonesia:
