NONTONNEWS.COM - Joey Pelupessy, pemain tengah yang saat ini membela Lommel SK, mengaku telah mendapatkan gambaran tentang fanatisme suporter Timnas Indonesia dari rekan lamanya, Ragnar Oratmangoen. Keduanya pernah bermain bersama di FC Groningen, dan hubungan baik mereka tetap terjalin meski kini Ragnar membela FC Dender.
Sebelum memutuskan untuk menjalani proses naturalisasi, Joey banyak bertanya kepada Ragnar tentang kehidupan sepak bola di Indonesia. Ragnar menggambarkan betapa fanatiknya suporter Indonesia, bahkan menyebutkan bahwa stadion bisa dipenuhi oleh 70.000 penonton dalam laga kandang. Ragnar juga menyebutkan potensi besar Timnas Indonesia untuk lolos ke Piala Dunia 2026.
"Saya kenal Ragnar Oratmangoen saat saya di FC Groningen. Dia bilang penggemar di sana benar-benar gila. Ada 70.000 orang yang datang di laga kandang. Mereka bahkan berpeluang lolos ke Piala Dunia 2026," ujar Joey dalam wawancara dengan HBVL.
Joey juga diingatkan tentang gelombang dukungan yang akan ia terima di media sosial jika resmi menjadi pemain naturalisasi Timnas Indonesia. Meski tidak terlalu aktif di platform digital, Joey menyadari bahwa ia perlu mempersiapkan diri untuk menghadapi perhatian besar dari publik.
"Saya tidak begitu aktif di media sosial, tetapi sepertinya saya harus segera mengunggah beberapa foto. Jadi, sesuatu hal besar akan menghampiri saya jika sampai pada titik itu," tambahnya.
Proses naturalisasi Joey Pelupessy saat ini sedang dikebut untuk memastikan ia bisa tampil dalam kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2026. Timnas Indonesia akan menghadapi Australia pada 15 Maret 2025 di kandang mereka, dan lima hari kemudian akan menjamu Bahrain. Joey diharapkan bisa memperkuat skuad Garuda dalam dua laga krusial tersebut.
Selain Joey, dua pemain lain juga sedang menjalani proses naturalisasi, yaitu Emil Audero Mulyadi (Palermo) dan Dean James (Go Ahead Eagles). Rekomendasi naturalisasi ketiga pemain ini telah disetujui oleh DPR RI. Proses selanjutnya adalah penandatanganan berkas oleh Presiden RI Prabowo Subianto pada Jumat (7/3), dilanjutkan dengan pengambilan Sumpah WNI di Kementerian Hukum dan HAM.
Dengan dukungan suporter yang fanatik dan potensi besar Timnas Indonesia, Joey Pelupessy dan pemain naturalisasi lainnya diharapkan bisa membawa angin segar bagi perjalanan Garuda menuju Piala Dunia 2026.
