Salah satu perubahan besar dari RX 100 terbaru adalah penggunaan mesin empat-tak, berbeda dari pendahulunya yang menggunakan mesin dua-tak 98 cc. Keputusan ini diambil untuk menyesuaikan dengan regulasi emisi modern yang lebih ketat, terutama di negara-negara seperti India yang akan menjadi salah satu pasar utama motor ini. Meski spesifikasi lengkapnya belum dirilis, Yamaha memastikan bahwa motor ini akan tetap mempertahankan karakteristik tenaga yang menjadi ciri khas RX 100. Tenaga dan torsi motor diprediksi mendekati 11,1 dk pada 7.500 rpm dan torsi 10,39 Nm di 6.500 rpm seperti RX 100 orisinal​.
Yamaha tampaknya tidak hanya sekadar menghadirkan motor untuk memenuhi permintaan pasar retro, tetapi juga memberikan pengalaman berkendara yang unik dengan sentuhan teknologi modern. Ada kemungkinan RX 100 reborn akan dilengkapi dengan sistem injeksi bahan bakar, teknologi keamanan seperti pengereman yang lebih baik, dan efisiensi bahan bakar yang sesuai dengan standar motor masa kini.
