Pertarungan ini adalah rematch dari musim 2023, di mana juara dunia dua kali bertahan, Bagnaia, berhadapan dengan Jorge Martin dari Pramac Racing. Setelah Grand Prix Jepang akhir pekan lalu, di mana Bagnaia berhasil meraih kemenangan ganda keempatnya musim ini, jarak poin antara kedua pembalap menyempit menjadi hanya 10 poin, dengan Martin masih memimpin klasemen sementara.
Namun, dinamika persaingan ini dipengaruhi oleh keputusan Martin untuk meninggalkan Ducati pada akhir musim 2024 dan bergabung dengan tim pabrikan Aprilia. Keputusan ini muncul setelah Ducati memutuskan untuk tidak mempromosikan Martin ke tim pabrikan bersama Bagnaia pada 2025.

Dalam salah satu wawancaranya di Indonesia, Bagnaia menyebut musim 2024 sebagai “kejuaraan kesalahan,” mengacu pada kecelakaan yang dialami Martin saat memimpin sprint race. Bagnaia mengkritik ban belakang Michelin 2024, yang menurutnya meningkatkan tekanan pada bagian depan motor saat pengereman, sehingga memicu banyak kesalahan.
